By Nick Stewart Across Canada, arboriculture is gaining overdue recognition, not just as a green industry, but as a skilled profession that demands formal training, safety standards, and long-term workforce development. With the increasing impacts of climate change, invasive pests, and urban expansion, municipalities and employers are calling for more trained arborists and a better system to train them. A national movement is now underway to recognize arborists as tradespeople, province by province, with a long-term goal of achieving Red Seal designation.
